Breath of Fire opens Premiere of The Mexican OC Friday, April 28!
Breath of Fire Theater Company is pleased to announce the World Premiere of the ground breaking play, The Mexican OC, A California Story Fund Grant Project. This funny and poignant collection of stories seeks to entertain, educate, and eliminate the stereotypes of Orange County's Mexican community. We meet two forces: pocha real estate agent, Debi Murillo, and chicana crossing guard, Yolanda Gomez, who are our guides through the intersections of untold Mexican American heritage.
This show is Directed by BOFTC Artistic Director Sara Guerrero, Produced and Production Managed by BOFTC Executive Director Heather Enriquez, and written in collaboration with Apolonio Morales, Cristina Nava, Elizabeth Szekeresh, Heather Enriquez, and Sara Guerrero. The production opens Friday, April 28 and runs for a total of seven performances through Saturday, May 6 at El Centro Cultural De Mexico, 310 W. 5th St., in Santa Ana. Show times are Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 pm and Sunday at 5:00 pm. One Thursday night show is scheduled for May 4 8:00 pm. A private fund raising performance is scheduled for Saturday, April 29th at 2:00 pm. Community Dialogs to follow each performance. Performances are free of charge, however donations are welcomed, and reservations are suggested.
The cast of twelve includes Breath of Fire Theater Company members Cristina Nava, Elsa Martinez Phillips, Lorena Billings, and Ronnie Alvarez, as well as El Centro community members Analy Garcia and Pedro Lopez. Making their El Centro Cultural De Mexico debut with this production are Alejandro Lara, Anthony Lucero, Jami McCoy, Keith Bennett, Maricela Lazcano, and Stephen O Young.
The tech team is headed by Stage Manager Jody Reeves, Lighting Design is by Oliver Huang, and Technical Direction is by Lonnie Alcaraz. Breath of Fire Theater Company: Operating under the fiscal sponsorship of El Centro Cultural De Mexico since 2003, we are a nonprofit Theater ensemble, organized to support the work and enrich the lives of Latina artists in the Orange County community. The overall purpose of our organization is to nurture, celebrate and advance Latina performing arts.
